Uttarakhand Gets an Eco-Bridge to Help Reptiles Cross a Busy Highway Safely

In a one-of-a-kind initiative, the Uttarakhand forest department has constructed a 5-foot-wide, 40-foot-high eco-bridge across a busy highway in Ramnagar.

The 90-foot-long bridge is made out of bamboo, jute, and grass. It can carry the weight of three adult humans and will help reptiles and other small animals to cross the two-lane Kaladhungi-Nainital highway. Local contracts have built the bridge that costs Rs 2 lakh. It took them 10 days to complete the construction.

The bridge will hopefully help to lower the number of snakes, pythons, lizards, monkeys and other animals crushed on the highway due to high traffic.
