Specially-abled Woman On Crutches Becomes Sarpanch Of Two Villages In Maharashtra

Kavita Bhondwe from Nashik in Maharashtra, a specially-abled woman has defied all the odds to become the sarpanch of not one but two villages in Maharashtra.

Kavita faced many obstacles and opposition from people for taking to leadership with a disability. But overcoming the difficulties, Kavita was elected as the sarpanch at the age of 25. Now, at 34 Kavita is serving her second term as the sarpanch of Dahegan and Waglud villages in Nashik.

Sharing her struggle, Kavita said that earlier people did not accept a young woman like her on crutches as their sarpanch but things fell in place once she started working towards the welfare of the village.
