Fearing Another Lockdown, Migrant Workers Head Home From Delhi, Mumbai

India reported over 1,25,000 COVID-19 cases in a day marking the highest surge of the pandemic on Wednesday. Delhi and Mumbai governments have already imposed night curfew amid the rapidly rising cases in the cities.

Owing to the lockdown-like situation and the distress that the migrant workers had gone through last time, many decided to pack their bags and leave already. Many migrant workers were spotted taking trains from Mumbai and buses from Delhi’s Anand Vihar fearing another lockdown.

They believe they might lose out on their jobs but do not prefer to remain stuck in the big cities amid the crisis. Hence, they have started heading to their native villages.
