17-year-old Ashma Shaikh assists her father who sells lime juice on the streets of Dongri during the day. The family of four, Ashma, her father, mother and younger brother dwells on a footpath near Azad Maidan in Fort in Mumbai.
She used to study under the streetlight at night as focusing on studies during the day amid continuous honking and traffic of vehicles wasn’t possible. She had enrolled herself at Hirjeebhoy Allahrakhia Laljeebhoy Sajan Girls High School.
Ashma, recently passed class X exams with 40% marks. Without proper access to education and even basic needs, Ashma worked hard to clear her board exams. Despite the odds, Ashma has truly set an example for many students out there.
