Jawed Khan, an auto driver from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh was moved to see videos and photos of people on social media facing a shortage of ambulance during the current covid crisis in the city. Khan, who normally earns not more than 200-300 rupees per day sold his wife’s jewelry to turn his auto into ambulance service.
Khan also queues up to get an oxygen cylinder in his auto refilled for helping serious patients. He has provided his mobile number on social media and helps patients reach the hospital on time free of cost. By far, he has dropped nine serious patients to the hospital in the last 10-15 days.
Khan takes all precautionary measures while dropping off covid patients at the hospital. He has created a partition made out of a plastic sheet between the driver and passenger seat in the auto. He also keeps a bottle of hand sanitizer handy.
